Meet the Board
Candy has worked with churches, schools, and foundations, whose mission she is passionate about, as well as companies in the for-profit sector. Her area of expertise is in Organizational Development, working with businesses to build effective teams, improve workplace efficiencies, and clarify strategic direction.
Candy also volunteers in the community and serves on Boards for Gilbert Leadership (graduate of Class XX), LEAD Charter Schools, Leading Edge Academy Queen Creek, and Gilbert Talks.
Having grown up in Orlando, FL, and lived in NC for 20 years, she is happy to call Gilbert, AZ home with her husband, Ron, of 38 years. They have two adult children – a son who is an Army vet in the IT industry and a daughter with an adventure photography/graphic design business. Candy enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with the family.
Brigette currently serves as a Gilbert Town Council Member beginning a 4 year term in January 2015. Prior to running for office she served on the Gilbert Planning Commission for 14 years. Her experience and connections with classmates of Gilbert Leaderships Class VIII led Brigette to apply for that volunteer position on the Planning Commission.
Brigette joined the Gilbert Leadership Board in June 2012 to get back involved with the program that taught her as much about herself as it did about Gilbert.
Brigette and her family moved from Massachusetts and made Gilbert their home in 1995. Her husband Mark is a Principal Software Engineer at General Dynamics in Scottsdale and they are now empty nesters. His hobby is 4-wheeling in his Jeep Rubicon and she tags along on the “easier” more scenic trips to combine her photography hobby with his hobby. They have 3 pets adopted from local rescues.
Paula and I are both Arizona natives and have lived in Gilbert for almost 27 years, all in the Islands community. 22 years ago, I decided to get involved in my community, first as chairman of the Islands Architectural Review Committee and then as President of the Islands Board for three years. It was during that period I applied for and was accepted in the Gilbert Leadership program and graduated 20 years ago from Class 2. I served on the Town’s Planning and Zoning Commission for four years and on Town Council for 12 years.
I am also a graduate of Valley Leadership Class 27. Another fine program but not quite as good as Gilbert’s! Although I have helped Gilbert’s program whenever I could, upon leaving Town Council allowed me the time to devote to Gilbert Leadership and other endeavors including spending more time with Paula and serving on various Town boards and committees including the Higley Center for the Performing Arts, Gilbert’s Self-insured Medical Trust Board, The Leadership Centre, Gilbert’s Park & Recreation Advisory Board and supporting our veterans through Operation Welcome Home and Veterans’ Day Ceremony. No matter how long you have lived in Gilbert, and how much you think you know, Gilbert Leadership will open your eyes to what a tremendous community we live in.
Paul is beginning his second 3 year term on the Gilbert Leadership Board and served as Treasurer of the Board in 2015. A native of Chicago, IL., and Minneapolis, MN., Paul moved to Gilbert in 2005. He has been active in the Gilbert Historical Museum and a Graduate of Class XX. He’s married to Ann whom he met and married at the Museum in 2013. He enjoys golfing, shooting and travelling with Ann.

She and her husband, David (Class XXI graduate) own and operate Meritum Credit Card Processing. With over 25 years of experience in this field and as a small business owner for the past 15 years, Leticia brings a wide array of experience in business, marketing, fundraising and community development. She looks forward to promoting and improving this wonderful program.
Lori is an Arizona native and a lifelong Gilbert resident. She is a graduate of Gilbert Leadership Class XXI (”Class of the Century”) which was comprised of vibrant, talented and committed leaders. Gilbert Leadership has given her the opportunity to contribute to her community and learn more about the Town of Gilbert. She is honored to serve as a Gilbert Leadership board member and to continue on this exciting path of service.
Gardenia Lamadrid is a graduate of Gilbert Leadership Class XXIII, the class that is “Breaking New Ground” and is possibly “The Most Talked About Class” in Gilbert history.

As a digital journalist for the Town of Gilbert, Gardenia collaborates with the Gilbert Digital team and produces short and long-form multi-media and video stories, which are viewed on Gilbert’s public access Channel 11, their social media platforms and various media outlets.

She has been recognized with regional and national journalism awards in radio, TV features, hard news reporting and documentary production, including a Hearst regional Emmy award.
Mark has been a Gilbert resident since 1992 and is the owner of Newman Realty. Since opening his company, Mark has committed himself to being involved in the community he is living and working in. He is active in the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce and applied for the Gilbert Leadership program in 2010, making him a proud graduate of Class XIX. He joined the Gilbert Leadership Board in 2015 and also serves on the local YMCA managing board. A large part of Mark’s business involves advocacy for the Town of Gilbert and he enjoys being an ambassador to new residents and businesses.
Mark is married to Mickie Newman, who is also a Realtor with his company, and a member of Gilbert Leadership Class XXIV. They were married in 2015 in a ceremony officiated by another Gilbert Leadership graduate and Town Judge John Hudson.
Mark brings his passion for this community and support of the Gilbert Leadership program to the Board and looks forward to helping make the program a continued success.
